Happy December 1st ! November flew by but we are only that much closer to the end of 2020. I hope you had a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend! I enjoyed my to-go Thanksgiving dinner from work and my time at home. I did miss my family and it definitely was not the same, but it wasn’t bad. I am still working through leftovers but I’m coming up with different ideas to get through them. If you follow my Instagram, eatrunsouthern, you know I took my leftover cranberry sauce and cranberries and made a cranberry tart. Y’all. It was so good. I’ll add the recipe this week because I may be making it again in the future. The original recipe I used was for a full sugar version but I used a keto crust I found on Pinterest and then swapped the sugar for Truvia and it was delicious. I didn’t get an after taste either!
Have you started decorating for Christmas? I know some people start decorating after Halloween and some people get it done over Thanksgiving. I started on Sunday by cleaning my apartment but then breaking out the decorations. I am not necessarily in the mood to decorate since it’s really just me and my dog at my apartment but I can have nice things, right? I don’t have a tree anymore since my apartment is so small but I scored a cypress from Kroger that was $19 and have started decorating that. Looks very Charlie Brown-esque but I like it. I dried oranges, lemons, and grapefruit slices to use as a natural ornaments. I’m not 100% sold on it yet mainly because the tree is not a full tree but someone mentioned doing a cranberry garland around it which I am going to try. I am doing a few more things outside with decoration than I usually do which I’ll show pictures on my IG once it’s all done.
A few weeks ago, I purchased a Daily Planner from my friend Saria’s company “Manifest Your Purpose” . I have started coming around to manifesting and believing it’s true power however I’m not a great journal-er. However, after using this planner on workdays it has really helped my overall mental wellbeing. Taking 5 minutes every morning to write things down and your goals, your focuses, your schedule for the day makes you prepared. It also has a water tracker, which I love. I plan on using this type of planner and customizing a daily calendar and planner for 2021. Check out her page if you are interested!
One of the reason I bring up the planner is because I have been having a hard time lately. I’ve talked about it before but I’m deep in Covid fatigue. And I’m not really talking about wearing masks, being safe, etc. It’s more from my job. I go to work every day in an industry and a world that is not and has not been covid resistant. My industry was decimated and hundreds of thousands of people have lost their jobs since March. People are still getting laid off or furloughed as we go into the holiday season which is historically slow for my area. For those of us who are lucky to not have been laid off or have been brought back, it’s rough. People suck right now. We are still bound by our budgets and pro formas for our owners and we can’t just give things away because we are hurting and need business. But everyone seems to think that we can. I see my coworkers exhausted. I see lights dimming. I see my guest-facing staff having to remind people to wear a mask in the hotel even though we have signage everywhere. And them getting in conversations/arguments about it. I know there are therapeutics coming and I know there is a vaccine coming. But it feels like that light that’s at the end of the tunnel is and has been a moving target since March.
How do you stay sane? This is already a stressful time of year for people normally with holidays, end of year stuff at work, budgets, etc. and add on this pandemic and dang. I just keep thinking that on January 1, 2021 that we will all wake up from this nightmare and everything will be different but I know that’s not the case. Again, moving target.
I keep telling myself to start rethinking my days or at least start planning things for 2021 that will make me happy. I haven’t put much thought to it but I am going to sit down and get that planned out this week. I’ll talk about those and my upcoming resolutions and 2021 goals soon.
I hope you have a great day and start to your December. We are in the last 2 minutes of the year…we got this!
