Delicious Devil’s Food Cupcake

This recipe is my new favorite for a chocolate cake recipe. AND it’s from a box!

The picture attached is the same recipe but I used some gel food color and crumbled Oreo cookies to get the Frankenstein. But this is a GOOD chocolate cake recipe I will be using from here on out.



  • 1 Box of Devil’s Food Cake Mix
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1/2 Cup Oil (I used Canola)
  • 3/4 Cup Milk or Buttermilk
  • 3/4 Cup Sour Cream (Room Temp)
  • 2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Tsp Salt


  • Can of Frosting
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp Milk
  • 1 tsp Salt


Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line your cupcake tins with liners.

In a medium bowl, sift cake mix to get rid of lumps. Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine eggs, oil, sour cream, milk, extract, and salt. Whisk until smooth and no clumps.

Stir the cake mix into the wet ingredients until combined. Don’t overmix but batter will be thick.

Fill your cupcake tins about 3/4 of the way full. Bake for 16-20 minutes or until a knife or toothpick comes out clean.

Transfer to rack and let cool.

While cupcakes are cooling, put your icing in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 10-15 seconds. Add in vanilla, milk, and salt, depending on the thickness you want.

Once cupcakes are cool, top with icing and enjoy!
