Habits and Routines

Happy Wednesday! I hope you are all are having a great week so far. I am enjoying the cooler weather here in North Texas. Today marks Day 50 of the 75 Hard Challenge!! Y’all..Day 50?! I’m 2/3 of the way through. I feel like a new routine has formed from this challenge. Daily workouts, daily book reading, eating right, daily gallon of water – it’s all working. I hope it’s a new routine because I like the way I feel. My mood has improved, my energy has slightly improved, my overall being has improved.

I’m reading “The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business” by Charles Duhigg and y’all, it’s good. I’ve gotten through the first third of the book where it explains habits and the basics of them. There is a cue that signals a pattern/action/etc. that results in a reward. Once you understand that, you can then change the pattern or action that comes from a specific cue to still get a reward but a different one. Example: Usually around 2:30p-3p I get bored/restless/hungry (cue). The pattern I’ve created is eating a snack or drinking a soda. Reward is satisfaction. But I can look at this and change the pattern. When the cue takes places at 2:30p-3:00p instead of eating a snack or drinking a soda, I go for a walk. The reward is still satisfaction from the endorphins or fresh air from outside but I’m not adding calories. I really like how the beginning of the book talks from a scientific side, which funnily enough habits and routines didn’t have a lot of science backing, to how it’s used in marketing products. Highly recommend.

I had to take a little bit of social media time off. I’ve been very addicted to TikTok which has been a nice “escape” from the world. Although I end up on there for an hour at a time so that’s not too great. But it could be worse, right? It is somewhat nice to have school starting again this year, in whatever fashion it’s starting. It helps me think of some normalcy coming back. I know things don’t look and feel like they did last year, or heck like they did beginning of this year, but we will get through this. I get a little overwhelmed every now and then thinking about everything going on and the light at the end of the tunnel is there, it’s just dim. I’m trying to make it fun by changing up my masks – I’m gonna have some birthday ones, Halloween ones, Thanksgiving and Christmas ones too. Hopefully will help me not go insane.

I have 25 days left of the 75 Hard Challenge and 37 days until my 30th birthday, so there are some good things to look forward to. I have a recipe coming out tomorrow and hopefully a craft next week. We’ll see how my weekend goes.

I hope you all have a great rest of your week. Stay safe and wear your mask!

  1. I’m wearing my mask and I know you are feeling better. But what I don’t get is it that you bake these amazing keto recipes, but when I come down, not a one is made. Lol
    Love you anyway!!
