Today is my birthday! I am another year older, another year wiser (🤷🏼♂️), and another year closer to death haha. Just kidding 😃 But seriously.
I always love birthdays because for me it’s similar to New Year’s. I take a quick beat to do some reflection on my life, where I am in the different facets of my life, and then decide if I need to make any changes. In the past, I would always do a last minute push for an end of the year weight loss which ended up never panning out. Or I’d make a goal to save all this money which is not realistic because my birthday starts my immediate family’s birthday season and then throw in Christmas and I’m broke as a joke. I never really care for gifts or a big to-do on birthdays. It’s nice to see the effort that people go to but it’s definitely never about the material things for me.
This past year has been a very interesting one. I don’t think on my birthday last year I would have been able to expect some of the things that have happened, to happen. I went outside of my normal everyday job and started doing some marketing/social media stuff for my dad’s business. It has been very eye-opening and fun to learn. I have discovered that I really enjoy it and would like to learn more through trainings online (I’ve started a few but haven’t really devoted time to it).
I started this blog 6 months ago and have enjoyed it. It has been a good stress reliever, good therapy, sometimes a stressor because I procrastinate but I really like it. Yeah at some point I would love to monetize my blog or something within it somehow but that’s not the most important part for me right now. I don’t think that I am by any means special in any way but I think that my extensive experience with multiple weight loss journeys will hopefully help someone out there.
I tested out a small side business of baking which I realized I don’t think I want to do. At least not now. It’s hard to be a home baker with very limited kitchen resources and time. I would still very much love to open a bakery of sorts in the future, but not at this time in my life. I have decided to start adding some of my favorite recipes (savory and sweet) to the website for y’all to view! More to come on that.
I’m excited to see what this next year has to offer. Not sure if you are familiar with astrology and the term “Saturn’s return” (I bet you’ve heard Mercury in Retrograde 🤓). Saturn’s return is believed to be a time of transition since Saturn completes a full orbit around the sun in the 28-30 years since your birth. It is said that in that time (28-30 years old), you will have a transition in some or all aspects of your life. You may excel in your career or you could flop. Same with wealth, love life, health, etc. I’m hoping it’s the former and not the latter 🤞🏼But I could probably say that my Saturn’s return has already started. Everything I mentioned above fits into a transition of sorts. There was a book I read a few months ago that somewhat changed my life and inspired me to do the things above. It’s called “Making a Living Without a Job: winning ways for creating work that you love” by Barbara Winter. It talks about taking that step in going outside of the “norm” for jobs or a career – good read 😀
All in all, I want to thank you for reading and following my journey. That is the best birthday gift I could receive (I know that sounds super corny). Looking forward to what the next year looks like for all of us. I would love to hear what topics or content you’d like me to speak on in the future. I’m all ears y’all 😃
Happy Birthday Jake! Excellent post and can’t wait for the recipes!
