Happy Tuesday Members! I hope you all had a great weekend and a great start to your holiday week. Just a note, I’m gonna start calling y’all ‘members’ since you are a ‘part of my club’ 😃 Anyway, I had an eventful weekend with my 5K on Saturday! Which is what I want to talk about because I had an interesting experience.
So I ran the Hula Hustle 5K in Little Elm, TX. Got some cool swag, see below:
The race started at 8:30a which by that time it was probably 85-88 degrees outside with full sun 😃 Fun right?
So this was the first race that I’ve actually run in about 5 years. Which is also surprising because it definitely doesn’t feel like it’s been that long. But I have been training for the past few months with runs and had somewhat high expectations on how I was going to do. And I completely bombed it haha. But really the only thing that got in my way was the actual trail itself.
After the first quarter mile, the trail turned to a gravel/dirt situation. And if you are a runner, you know that changes the game slightly. I was expecting it which threw me a little. I also have shin splints which the uneven ground made worse. And I couldn’t get past it mentally. Which frustrated me even more!
When you take yourself out of the normal running element that you are used to and then you throw in all these extra variables, which I hadn’t prepared for, you have obstacles to overcome. And coming from someone who has really become non-flexible in my every day life, I couldn’t adjust to the changes thrown my way.
But the entire run wasn’t a waste or bad. I finished right around an hour and 5 minutes which is honestly good taking into account that I walked a majority of it. I also did it. I got up, on a Saturday, at like 6:30am, and did a freaking 3.2 mile run – that’s awesome! I did end up running into someone I knew who I hadn’t seen in a very long time and so most of the walk was she and I catching up, which was nice.
Moral of the story, set low expectations 😂 Ha, just kidding. But set real expectations and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t hit them. Look at the positives you did achieve.
Have a great week and safe 4th of July!
That sounds like so much fun! I personally love running 5ks for the t-shirts and medals. Is that vain? Lol. Probably. I still haven’t found a summer 5k. It’s getting too hot here to do any type of day running. My next 5k is in September. Glad you finished! 😁

That’s one of the only reasons I do runs – the swag!!
I’m trying to get myself up in the mornings to run before work because it’s just too hot during the day

Exactly lol. Haha. I bought a medal shelf and can’t wait to fill it up. I do morning runs and I love it! It’s such a good time to run in the summer. Not too hot or cold. Lol
